Do I Want to Be a Doula?

Most people who become doulas wondered about it for a long time first. Maybe a friend had a doula, or your own birth stayed with you. Maybe people have always found it easy to talk to you and you have started to think that might be useful. I have been a doula since 2002 and I have trained more than 1,500 doulas. I made this short course for the stage before any of that, when you are still asking yourself whether this work is for you. Over three lessons, I will tell you what doulas really do, what they don't do, what the research says and how people go from wondering to working with families. I will be honest about the practical side too, including earning and running your own business. There are no tests. At the end of each lesson, I will ask you one question to think about. By the end, you should have a much clearer sense of whether to take this further, and if the answer is no, that is useful to know as well.
