Doula Coaches:
Your Mentors

What Does a Doula Coach Do?

At The BirthBliss Academy, we know that doulas need support, too. That’s where your Doula Coach comes in.

Your coach is your sounding board, guide, and mentor throughout the BirthBliss Doula Coaching Programme, a reflective and supportive process designed to help you grow in confidence, deepen your learning, and find your own rhythm as a doula.

This isn’t about being assessed or checked up on. It’s about learning from real experiences, having space to reflect, and being encouraged as you build your practice.

What Your Doula Coach Will Do:

  1. Support You Through Your Early Jobs
Your Doula Coach will be there as you begin supporting your first clients, whether birth, postnatal, night-time, or online.
They’ll offer perspective, reassurance, and guidance as you learn from each experience.

  2. Encourage Reflection and Learning
After each job, you’ll complete a short record of your experience and share it with your coach.
Together, you’ll have a reflective conversation to explore what went well, what challenged you, and what you want to bring forward next time.

  3. Help You Find Your Doula Voice
Your Doula Coach isn’t there to tell you how to do things “right.”
They’re there to help you discover your way of being a doula, authentic, confident, and grounded in your own values.

  4. Offer Practical Support
Your coach can help you talk through boundaries, communication, contracts, and client relationships, all the parts of doula work that go beyond the birth room. They’re there to help you feel prepared and professional as you grow your business.

  5. Be a Safe Place to Talk
Sometimes you just need to unpack a situation or emotion. Your Doula Coach offers that space, someone who listens, holds perspective, and helps you process your experiences with care and confidentiality.

What Your Doula Coach Won’t Do:

It’s important to be clear on the limits of the Doula Coach’s role, as their focus is on mentorship and professional development, not administrative tasks or technical support. Here’s what your Doula Coach will not do:

  • They won’t help with logging into accounts or setting up Google Docs: If you need assistance with technology or business admin tasks (such as setting up Google Drive or managing documents), this falls outside the scope of your Doula Coach’s support.

  • They won’t send you templates, contracts, invoices, or other documents: While these resources are available to you through the Members Area of The BirthBliss Academy website, your Doula Coach will not be responsible for sending or managing these documents for you.

  • They won’t teach you how to manage your business admin: If you need additional support with business management tasks, such as invoicing, contracts, or setting up your business systems, we recommend working with a virtual assistant or business coach, who can provide one-on-one support in these areas.

Why It’s Important to Understand These Boundaries

The BirthBliss Doula Coaching Programme is built on respect, independence, and trust. Your Doula Coach’s role is to help you reflect and grow, not to run your business or oversee your workload.

By keeping these boundaries clear, you get the most meaningful support, space to reflect, grow, and learn in your own time, with professional guidance every step of the way.

How We Support Your Business Growth

Your Doula Coach will help you think through the real-world aspects of doula work, like pricing, communication, and managing expectations.

You’ll also have access to:

  • The BirthBliss Members Area, packed with templates, contracts, and practical tools.

  • Doula the Doula sessions every month.

  • Coach & Connect sessions, bi-monthly group sessions where doulas and coaches share experiences.

  • Doula Deep-Dive CPD sessions, included with a listing on The Doula Directory.

Final Thoughts

Your Doula Coach is here to help you feel supported, not judged.

They’ll guide you to reflect, build confidence, and continue evolving as a compassionate and capable doula.

As we often say:

The doula needs a doula too, and that’s exactly what your coach is here for.

TERMS & CONDITIONS:

The accreditation programme includes a 24-month period of coaching and mentoring, and this time period starts once you have signed up with your Doula Coach. Extending the time beyond 24 months will require you to re-apply and pay additional fees to continue your accreditation journey (any jobs already signed off can be carried forward).

There are circumstances where you can put your accreditation programme on-hold and pause it with the intention of continuing at a later date. These circumstances include bereavements, long-term health issues and maternity leave.
