Introducing Syanne Walker, BirthBliss Doula Of The Month, June 2018. I live in London and have one daughter born in 2017. I am a birth and postnatal doula and I have been working as a doula since January 2018.
What inspired you to become a doula? The birth of my daughter inspired me to become a doula. I didn't like my experience and actually wish I had hired a doula. I want every woman to have a positive experience. What did you do for a living before becoming a doula and if so, how has this helped you when working as a doula? I worked in the NHS in mental health and still want to train as a psychologist when the time comes. What has been the highlight of your doula career so far? First home birth, amazing! What have you found the most difficult? Challenging the attitudes of health care professionals. Can you share one lesson you have learnt through your work as a doula? Women's bodies are amazing. What is the one essential item you can't be without in your doula kit? Stuff for a quick wash and outfit change. And finally, what would be your one piece of advice to a woman who is considering training as a doula? Know your worth and take your time! |
