From a very young age, girls are taught to be “good”. To not make a fuss, to ensure everyone is happy, to make things run smoothly and not cause a scene. It is so ingrained in our society that you would be forgiven for thinking that subservience is a natural quality of women and girls; that little girls are “sweet” and “gentle”, and little boys are “boisterous” and “loud”.
I’m not talking about a football coach, standing on the side-line shouting instructions and I can’t think of anything more ‘un-doula-like’ but when I say coach I mean more in the sense of a life coach.
The words natural and Caesarean don’t, at first glance, seem like they should fit together. Although the terms “natural Caesarean” or “gentle Caesarean” sound like a contradiction of terms, some hospitals are starting to implement a more natural approach to Caesarean birth.
