![]() I can honestly not quite believe 2017 is almost at an end! One of my daughters has just broken up from college and my other daughter comes home tomorrow from studying abroad. I am so ready to turn down the dial on my work and enjoy a slow, restful family Christmas. I also plan on taking some time to reflect on a very busy year of teaching aspiring doulas, launching my online antenatal course, finishing the second edition of my book The Secrets of Birth, and of course, working as a doula!
I feel so lucky and grateful to have taught so many aspiring doulas this year, both in the UK and abroad in China. My courses are always full of the most wonderful mix of compassionate and caring women, and I so enjoy getting to know them! I am always humbled by the experiences of the women who sit before me. Some are grandmothers with huge families; some are young women who are yet to have children. They all have different backgrounds, different families, and different amounts of pre-existing knowledge and insight into the world of birth and maternity services. But they are all drawn together by a deep rooted desire to support, help, nurture, and hold space for their fellow women, as they cross the threshold into motherhood. I always end the courses feeling like I have learnt so much from these women around me, and that as women we have a lot to learn from each other. The compassion and sisterhood that develops during the days we spend together shows what an impact we could all have in this world if we did this full time! Women working together and supporting each other in everything we do! We can make a huge difference to so many women and by doing so, setting families up for life. It starts with a positive birth experience and then kind and non-judgemental support postnatally. I truly believe that we can change the world into a more peaceful place by supporting women and their families! If you are ready to take the next step on your journey towards a fulfilling career as a doula, then do get in touch. I’m going to be increasing the price of my course from 1st January 2018 so if you are thinking about becoming a doula, you should book your place on one of my courses before this year is over; that way, you will save £50 ! The dates and venues for next year can be found on my website. "Kicki is a truly wonderful teacher. The passion and joy she brings to the class is infectious, and a few hours into the course you can sense it has already spread. The cause is jam-packed full of useful info and I came away feeling more than ready to start my journey as a doula. The support Kicki provides makes you feel like you do not only have a teacher who is there for you, but also a friend." I’m always happy to have a chat and answer any questions or explain in more detail what we cover on the course. You can book a time to chat to me by visiting my online diary. I think booking a place on my course is a wonderful investment, in yourself and in your career. Don't just take my word for it though - you can read what past participants have said. |
