Will an online course prepare me properly?

The online course follows the same core BirthBliss curriculum as our in person training and leads to the same BirthBliss Diploma.The experience is different because you are not spending four consecutive days in a room with the same group. In return, you have considerably more time to absorb the material, revisit lessons and reflect on what you are learning.You will also have opportunities to join live BirthBliss sessions and connect with other students while you train.

Will I miss something by not training in person?

Online and in person learning are different experiences.On the in person course, much of the learning happens through being together, discussion and practical activities over four days.Online, you have the benefit of working at your own pace, returning to lessons and having more time between subjects to think about what you are learning.Neither route needs to be better than the other. The question is which way of learning works better for you.

How long will the course take?

The BirthBliss Doula Academy self-paced online doula course can be completed entirely at your own pace.Some students choose to move through the course in 2 to 4 weeks, while others spread their learning over several months to fit around work, family life, or other commitments. There are no time limits or deadlines and you have lifetime access to the course materials.This flexibility allows you to learn in a way that feels manageable and sustainable, giving you time to absorb the content, reflect and return to lessons whenever you need.

What if I start online and wish I had chosen the in person course?

You can upgrade to one of our in person courses by paying the difference between the online and in person course fees.Starting online does not close the door on learning with us in person later.

Do I need previous experience?

Accepted Answer

No previous professional experience in maternity care or birth work is required.People come to doula training from many different backgrounds. What matters more is a willingness to learn, reflect and understand what supportive doula practice involves.

Question 6

Do I need to have had children?

Accepted Answer

No.You do not need to be a parent or to have given birth yourself to become a doula.Your own experiences can influence the way you see birth and parenting, although they are not what qualify you to support another person. Learning to recognise your own experiences, assumptions and responses is an important part of becoming a reflective doula.

What happens after I receive my Diploma?

You can begin working as a doula and building experience with families.You will receive six months free membership of The Doula Directory and you can continue learning through the BirthBliss community.If you would like additional structure and professional reflection as you gain practical experience, you can also choose to join the BirthBliss Certification Programme.

Question 8

Do I need a Doula UK approved course?

Accepted Answer

No.There is no legal requirement to complete a Doula UK approved course in order to work as a doula in the UK.BirthBliss is an independent training organisation. Our course is FEDANT accredited, recognised by The Doula Association of Ireland and leads to the Diploma in Birth & Postnatal Doula Support.The most important thing is choosing a course that provides high quality education, ongoing support and prepares you well for working with families.Read more: Do I need a Doula UK approved course?
