When Kicki started BirthBliss Doula Services back in 2002, she was a doula, providing birth and postnatal doula services. Things really took off and within four years Kicki was also delivering doula training.
The business continued to grow and in 2011, Kicki was immensely proud to release her own range of courses and workshops for existing doulas, as well as those that wanted to train to become a doula. The BirthBliss Academy was born.
In 2019, The Doula Directory was created to list all the doulas that had come through The BirthBliss Academy and this expanded to welcome all doulas to list their services in 2022.
In September, 2020, the doulas at The BirthBliss Academy launched the #butnotmaternity social media campaign, which went on to, and continue to be used by many birth workers and parents to encourage the removal of restrictions in place at many hospitals around the UK.
In January 2021, a group of BirthBliss doulas came together and created a not-for-profit organisation for all the BirthBliss doulas, The Doula Association. They felt there was a need for an organisation that would speak up for and support doulas with the challenges faced by Covid-19 and also raise the profile of the work of doulas.
With further partnerships as well as online programmes for birth professionals in progress, we are excited to see what lies ahead for The BirthBliss Academy.

Mission Statement
- To ensure high quality antenatal doula, birth doula, postnatal doula and night-time doula support by offering evidence-based training and accreditation for doulas of diverse backgrounds.
- Through the education of doulas, provide families with continuity of support during the childbearing year, inspiring positive birthing experiences and beyond.
Vision Statement
We don't train doulas - we believe that people feel drawn to this work and already have the skills necessary. We provide education, inspiration and support to enable those that complete our course to confidently offer doula services and in the process, contribute towards creating positive memories for their clients throughout the childbearing year.
Our vision is that by welcoming everyone that feels drawn to doula work and by giving them the tools to run a successful business, we will create a diverse community of authentic doulas. This means there will be a doula that is right for each woman or birthing person out there and for every family and their unique needs.
