As we step into a new year, it’s the perfect time to consider how you can turn your passion for supporting pregnant women and families into a fulfilling and impactful career. For many, this season of renewal brings the courage to pursue long-held dreams or to finally explore passions that have been quietly calling for years. Perhaps you're one of those people who has always felt drawn to supporting others during pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. Maybe you’re a mum who knows first-hand the incredible difference compassionate care can make. Or perhaps you’re stuck in a job that leaves you unfulfilled, yearning for a career with purpose, meaning, and heart.
If any of this resonates, let me tell you—you’re in the right place. You’ve got what it takes to be a doula.
Many aspiring doulas I speak to worry about whether they have the right skills or background to succeed in this unique role. Let me assure you: the heart of being a doula is about connection, empathy, and a genuine desire to support others. The truth is, you already possess the most important qualities you need. Everything else can be learned—and that’s where the right doula training comes in.
The journey to becoming a doula is as much about personal growth as it is about professional development. It’s about recognising your own strengths, learning to listen deeply, and gaining the tools to support women and families in a way that feels empowering and authentic to you. And yes, with so many courses out there, it can be overwhelming to know where to start or who to trust. That’s why I want to share a bit about why I’m so passionate about this work and what sets my doula course apart.
I’ve been a doula for over 23 years. During this time, I’ve supported countless families, listened to thousands of birth stories, and witnessed the incredible impact that a skilled and compassionate doula can have.
My training didn’t stop after my first course—far from it. I’ve attended workshops, studied with renowned birth professionals, and continually sought out opportunities to deepen my understanding. For instance, one of the most impactful experiences was learning directly from the 'grandmothers-of-doulas' Penny Simkin and Phyllis Klaus, whose ground-breaking work on trauma and childbirth has shaped my approach. These experiences, combined with over two decades of hands-on support, have allowed me to grow into one of the most experienced and knowledgeable doula course facilitators in the UK.
When I created my course, I wanted to do more than just teach people how to be doulas. I wanted to create a space where aspiring doulas could feel supported, inspired, and confident in their ability to make a difference. My approach is rooted in years of practical experience, combined with a deep understanding of birth physiology, the psychology of birth, and the emotional needs of women and families during this transformative time. But beyond the knowledge and skills, my course is designed to help you tap into what makes you unique as a doula.
Because here’s the thing: being a doula isn’t about fitting into a mould or ticking off a checklist. It’s about being present, being real, and showing up with an open heart. It’s about creating a sense of safety and trust, offering evidence-based information, and respecting the autonomy of the families you work with. And it’s about knowing when to step in and when to step back—to hold space without trying to fix or control the outcome.
This work is deeply personal, and it’s not one-size-fits-all. That’s why I’m committed to helping each of my trainees discover their own style and approach. Whether you’re someone who’s naturally nurturing, a fantastic listener, or simply passionate about helping women feel strong and capable, there’s a place for you in this work.
One of the things that makes my course unique is the emphasis on practical, scenario-based learning. I believe it’s essential for doulas to not only understand the theory but also to experience what it’s like to be “doulaed” themselves. My trainees often tell me that this aspect of the course is transformative—it helps them realise that they already have what it takes and gives them the confidence to step into the role with clarity and purpose.
Another key aspect of the course is the supportive community you’ll become part of. The journey to becoming a doula can feel daunting at times, especially if you’re juggling other commitments or navigating your own doubts and fears. That’s why I’ve created an environment where you’ll feel encouraged every step of the way. From the moment you sign up, you’ll be part of a network of like-minded individuals who are passionate about making a difference. Many of my trainees go on to form lifelong friendships and professional connections that continue to support them throughout their careers.
As you explore your options for doula training, it’s natural to have questions. You might wonder how to fit the course into your busy life or whether you’ll be able to find work as a doula once you’ve completed your training. These are all valid concerns, and I’m here to help you navigate them. My course is designed to be flexible and accessible, with options for in-person and online learning. Whether you prefer the immersive experience of a live, in-person course or the convenience of a self-paced online program that fits around your schedule, there’s an option for you.
We also understand that committing to a new career path can be a financial investment, which is why we offer payment plans to make the training more accessible. You can choose to spread the cost over several months, giving you the flexibility to pursue your passion without added stress.
We believe that becoming a doula should be within reach for anyone who feels called to this work.
It’s also worth mentioning that doulas are in demand now more than ever. With increasing awareness of the benefits of doula support, more families are seeking out this personalised, non-judgemental care during pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. Research has shown that having a doula present can lead to better outcomes for both mothers and babies, including shorter labours, reduced need for interventions, and higher levels of maternal satisfaction. By becoming a doula, you’re stepping into a role that is not only deeply fulfilling but also incredibly impactful. You have the power to change lives—to help women feel strong, confident, and supported during one of the most significant experiences of their lives.
Over the years, I’ve heard so many inspiring stories from the doulas I’ve trained. There’s the mum who found her true calling after her own challenging birth experience and now supports other women with unmatched empathy and understanding. There’s the former teacher who brings her natural gift for nurturing and empowering others into her doula business. And there’s the young woman who had never considered this path before attending one of my workshops and discovered a passion she didn’t even know she had. Each story is a testament to the transformative power of this work and the incredible diversity of people who are drawn to it.
So, if you’ve been waiting for a sign, consider this it! This is your year to take the leap, to invest in yourself and your dreams, and to step into a career that aligns with your values and passions. Becoming a doula isn’t just about learning new skills—it’s about discovering who you are and what you’re capable of. It’s about creating a ripple effect of positivity and empowerment that extends far beyond the families you work with.
If you’re ready to begin this incredible journey, I’d be honoured to guide you. My doula course is more than just training—it’s an invitation to step into your potential and to join a community of individuals who are passionate about making a difference. You already have what it takes. Now it’s time to believe in yourself and take that first step.
Let this be the year you say yes to your dreams and yes to the lives you’ll touch as a doula. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes you.
